If you follow my blog on the regular, you’ll probably remember that I did a review of Clean Kiss Organics hair care products back in July. And now I’m back with another review of this brand, this time of some of their skin care products. This Canadian brand has a full range of green and organic personal care products as well as skin care and hair care. They are also:
- Gluten Free
- Cruelty-Free – Leaping bunny Certified
- Made in Small Artisan Batches
- Use Sustainable Packaging
- Have a Charitable Giving Program
The three products that I’ll be reviewing this post are the Fruity Kisses Papaya Brightening AHA Mask, the Keep Calm and Kiss Me Rose Chamomile Facial Tonic, and the Kiss Me Goodnight Replenishing Avocado Night Cream. These three, when used together, are a powerhouse for anyone concern with dull, dry or irritated skin!
I adore dry masks like this one. The format means that they are safe for travel, and can be customized in any way you wish. I also really love the scent of this one, which is definitely dominated by the top note of papaya. This particular mask is amazing for use on dull, dry skin or if you are concerned about hyperpigmentation.
With ingredients such as mango, papaya, and guava extracts, the brand suggests mixing it with either equal parts water or a half and half mix of water and organic honey. I tried it both ways. The first time I used the mask, I mixed the recommended tablespoon of the dry mask with a half tablespoon of water and a half tablespoon of organic honey. I found the consistency was a little runny compared to other masks I’ve tried, and that two tablespoon of mask was about double what I needed to cover my entire face.
So the second time I used it, I actually tried a half tablespoon of the dry mix with a half tablespoon of organic honey. This time, the mix was very thick and sticky, but the single tablespoon of mask was the perfect amount of mask for me. From then on, I definitely mixed water with the mask and honey, painting it on with a stiff synthetic bristled mask brush (for a budget-friendly option, grab a paint brush from a local craft store as a dedicated mask brush and use which little bowl or ramekin you have in your kitchen).
As for the effects of the mask, I found that this mask was more aggressive in its brightening effects than most natural masks on the market. For me, it’s halfway between a mask and a fruit peel. Because of this, I tended to use this mask only in the evening, and then I’d follow up with the other two products below before hoping into bed. However, over time it did lessen the appearance of the few spots of pigmentation that I have, especially on my nose.
Clean Kiss Organics recommends using this mask up to twice a week, but if you are worried about sensitivity, I would start with once a week. Or, if you’re really worried, you could incorporate this mask into a multi-masking regime and target it onto areas of dullness or hyperpigmentation.
This facial tonic has quickly become a staple in my skin care routine, and I use it morning and night. Because it contains both rose and chamomile, it’s super soothing on my sensitive skin and really hydrating. I use it after cleansing, but the addition of vegetable glycerine in the formula means that you can also use this after you apply makeup, to bring down a powdery look and to give you a radiate, glowly look.
I’ve gone through half the bottle of this marvelous stuff, and while the formula and glass packaging, along with the spray nozzle, are all superb, I do have one con. And that’s the scent of this product. To be honest, I’m not much of a chamomile person when it comes to the scent or taste of the herb, and so I don’t really enjoy the scent. However, scent is such a subjective thing and I really don’t mind because of the amazing benefits I’ve seen from this tonic.
The last item is a heavy, nourishing overnight cream that I am just in love with. The scent here is much better as its got a rich earthiness from the avocado butter with slight floral notes from rose, lavender, geranium, ylang ylang and so many other flowers.
But what I truly love about this product was the way it totally saved my skin this year! I’ve lived in Manitoba since mid-July, and although I’ve lived in this province before, I completely forgot just how dry it gets here in the fall and winter.
So when November began, I was surprised to find patches of eczema on my already dry skin. Applying this cream nightly, however, cleared them up in under a week. So this is going to be my go-to all winter long!
The only catch is that you really need to be something of a back sleeper to get the full benefits. This cream takes its time to sink in, making it more like an overnight mask than a lotion that rubs in right away. But by that time you wake up, it has worked its magic on your face. Just be sure to avoid getting it on your pillowcase!
So that’s my review! Have you tried anything from this great Canadian natural beauty brand? What are your thoughts? Let me know in the comments!
